In early spring 2005 my husband and I began the journey of international adoption. We felt called to add to our family in this way. The journey has been a roller coaster ride not for the weary hearted. We know God has our children picked out. We have just not met them yet.
We thought we had when in Greg and I travel to the far east of Russia in April 2006. There we met a beautiful sibling set we named Alyona "Aly" Grace and Sergey Lawton. We returned home to await a court date to finalize their adoption. That day never came. Seventeen months later we found out they had been placed in long term foster care in May 2007 and were no longer available for adoption.
Broken hearted I began to question why God had taken us down this road. A road that I did not even want to go down in the beginning. It all started after the unexpected death of my Dad in Jan. 2005. During this time I began to understand the pain of being an orphan. Yes I had a mom and a large family who loved me but, I no longer had a Dad to call my own. It was at this point God began to change my heart toward adoption. Up until that point I had been like so many who think "how can I love somebody else's child?" When people ask questions or say this to me I completely understand what they mean. The only thing I can say back is "I'm called"
Our journey is not over. I believe there is a happy ending. But in the mean while I will use my God given abilites to help others add to their families through adoption.
